Lew Gelfond. 

Lew Gelfond resides and performs in Asheville, NC . His fiddling and violin playing encompass bluegrass, country, classical music, swing and a variety of ethnic and specialty music styles. He and teaches violin/fiddle and mandolin. Lew has been and instructor at the Greyfox Bluegrass Academy for kids in upstate New York for 9 years. Prior to coming to Asheville, Lew was a performer, teacher, dance caller and independent booking agent in the New Jersey/New york region. He plays classical violin, viola and mandolin as well as being versed as a bluegrass, celtic, country music and swing. Lew has been performing assembly programs by with fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar and dance. He worked for Encore Entertainment with Richard Stillman performing school assemblies and workshops. Lew has studied as a classical violist with teachers from the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony and Manhattan School of music.

Lew was part of a group of blue grass and old time musicians for years In the Philly area around Media, PA. He has lived and played in Richmond, VA where he won talent competitions and performed at the universities and clubs. Lew performed at the ski and summer resorts above Denver in the Rockies for many years and has received acclaim by winning many local and regional fiddling contests. His music covers many traditional styles including: Bluegrass, old-time American, Irish and Scottish music, country, swing, cajun, ragtime, Scandinavian and gypsy music. His songs, dances and instrumental music with fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar are rooted in American traditions. “I deliver a lively blend of songs and instrumental music rooted in North American traditions. His band the Hotfoot Travelers toured France playing country swing and bluegrass music. He played in country band Freewheelin’ in New Jersey. He performed with Go For Broke at the Glenwood springs Hotel in Colorado. His band Go for Broke payed clubs in Vail, Steamboat Springs and Aspen. Lew has toured France twice, giving concerts and leading dance workshops.
